Großer St. Bernhard / Great St Bernard & Col de Champex – Roadtrip Alps+Pyrenees Summer 2018, Teil / Part 2

Auf der zweiten Etappe unseres kleinen Reise-Abenteuers (30 Tage, 4.400 km, 5 Länder) fuhren wir von Gryon (Schweiz) über den Alpenhauptkamm bis nach Aosta (Italien). Höhepunkte dabei waren der Col de Champex (1498m) mit dem wunderbaren Champex-See sowie der von uns geliebte Pass Großer St. Bernhard (2469m). On the second stage of our little travel adventure (30 days, 4.400km, 5 countries), we drove from Gryon (Switzerland) through the Alps to Aosta (Italy). Highlights were the Col de Champex (1498m) with the wonderful Champex lake and our beloved pass Great St Bernard (2469m). As usual, this detailed article comes with in depth information, photos, Denzel codes and our GPS tracks on an interactive map.

Telegram(m) 23 – Über zwei Passtrassen nach Italien / To Italy via two mountain passes

Von Gryon in der Schweiz aus zogen wir weiter in Richtung Italien. Anstatt von Martingy direkt den Großen Sankt Bernhard Pass anzusteuern, machten wir noch einen Abstecher über den Lac de Champex. Champex lädt mit seiner Seepromenade, toller Aussicht und diversen Creperien zum Verweilen ein.

From Gryon in Switzerland we departed towards Italy. Instead of heading to the Great saint Bernard pass directly from Martigny, we made an excursion via Lac de Champex. Champex stars with its lakeside walk, magnificent view and various creperies.

Für ein Fondue im „La Channe“ in Liddes blieb diesmal leider keine Zeit.

Unfortunately no time for a fondue at „La Channe“ in Liddes this time.

Am Sankt Bernhard Pass selbst war an diesem Samstag deutlich mehr Betrieb als bei unserem letzten Besuch zum Anfang November 2017. Bei wiederum bestem Wetter gefielen Spaziergänge auf der Schweizer und Italienischen Seite.

At Great Saint Bernard’s pass it was much busier than during our last visit in November 2017. We enjoyed walks on the Swiss and Italian side with best weather.

Nach einer Abfahrt von ca. einer Stunde erreichten wir in Aosta den schmucklosen, aber praktisch zentrumsnah gelegenen Wohnmobilstellplatz, wo wir nach einem typisch italienischen Abendessen übernachteten.

After a descent of about an hour we reached the practical but unspectacular camper parking in Aosta, where we spent the night after a typical itslian dinner.

Alpen-Herbst/Autumn-Alp Tour – Tag/Day 11: Chiusa di San Michele – Aosta / Breuil-Cervinia (ca. 2000m) / Matterhorn

An diesem Tag fuhren wir, ohne lange in Chiusa di San Michele zu verweilen, in Richtung Aosta-Tal weiter, um schnellstmöglich das Matterhorn-Gebiet zu erreichen, für das wiederum hervorragendes Wetter angekündigt war. Staufrei passierten wir Turin und Ivrea, um bei Saint Vincent / Chatillion ins Tal der Marmore, Valtourneche, Richtung Breuil Cervinia abzubiegen. Schnell war das Talende auf ca. 2000m Höhe erreicht, so dass vor Einbruch der Dunkelheit noch Zeit für eine ausgiebige Wanderung mit herrlicher Aussicht auf Matterhorn und Umgebung blieb.
This day, without staying in Chiusa de San Michele for a long time, we continued our trip towards the Aosta valley in order to reach the Matterhorn area as quickly as possible. For the latter we had received a very promising weather forecast. Without any traffic jams, we passed by Torino and Ivrea and turned into Valtourneche with its Mamore river towards Breuil Cervinia at Saint Vincent / Chatillion. Having reached the end of the valley at about 2000m of altitude quickly, we were able to do a nice hike with great views towards Matterhorn and surroundings before the sun set.
