Briancon – Col du Galibier – Mont Blanc

Nach unserem Morgen-Spaziergang durch die Altstadt von Briancon am 14. Tag unseres Mai 2017 Frankreich Roadtrips (1. Juni 2017) traten wir die Weiterfahrt in Richtung Mont Blanc über den Col du Galibier an. Von Briancon aus geht es in Nordwestlicher Richtung durch das schöne Tal Vallée de la Guisane zunächst zum Col du Lautaret (2058m) und dann weiter hinauf bis 2556m. Es folgt die Abfahrt ins Tal über Valloire und Saint-Michel-de-Maurienne und schliesslich über die Autobahnen A43/A430 vorbei an Albertville in Richtung Chamonix. Auf unserer Karte unten ist die Strecke grün markiert.

Day 14 (June 1st 2017) of our May 2017 France road trip: After our morning stroll through the historic center of Briancon we continued our trip towards Mont Blanc via the famous Col du Galibier. Driving northwest from Briancon we passed the nice valley Vallée de la Guisane up to the Col du Lautaret (2058m) and then further up to 2556m. Continuing downhill, via Valloire and Saint-Michel-de-Maurienne, we used highways A43/A430 passing Albertville direction Chamonix. On our map below, the day’s track is marked in green.

Spaziergang durch Briancon – a stroll through Briancon

Vor der Weiterreise nach Norden nahmen wir uns am 14. Tag unseres Mai 2017 Frankreich Roadtrips (1. Juni 2017) morgens Zeit für einen Spaziergang durch die sehenswerte Altstadt von Briancon. In Wikipedia kann man lesen, dass Briancon auf 1326m die höchstgelegene Stadt Frankreichs ist.

Before continuing our trip northwards on day 14 (June 1st 2017) of our May 2017 France road trip, we took some time off in the morning for a stroll through the impressive historic center of Briancon. Quoting Wikipedia, Briancon at an altitude of 1326m is the highest city in France.

Barcelonette – Briancon

Am 31. Mai 2017, dem 13. Tag unseres Mai 2017 Roadtrips in Frankreich reisten wir von Barcelonette nach Briancon (die Strecke ist in unserer Karte unten schwarz markiert). Ursprünglich planten wir, von Barcelonette aus über den Col de Vars nach Guillestre zu fahren. Relativ spät, schon in der Nähe des Fort de Tournoux bemerkten wir jedoch die Hinweistafeln mit der Information, dass der Col de Vars noch geschlossen sei. Also machten wir kehrt und umfuhren den Gebirgszug westwärts entlang des Sees „Lac de Serre-Poncon“.

On May 31st, 2017, day 13 of our May 2017 road trip through France, we traveled from Barcelonette to Briancon (route is marked in black in our map below). Originally we intended to take the Col de Vars to reach Guillestre. But a bit late, already close to the Fort de Tournoux, we realized the signs indicating that the Col de Vars was closed that day. So we had to turn around and pass that chain of mountains direction west passing the lake „Lac de Serre-Poncon“.
