Am Morgen erwachten wir bei frostigen Temperaturen in der Ballonfahrerstadt Château-d’Oex im Gruyere Naturpark. Das wiederum herrliche Wetter machte einen Stadtrundgang dort zum Erlebnis. Zum Ende des touristischen Teils unserer Alpen-Herbst-Tour erreichten wir am Abend Basel und übernachteten in Weil am Rhein.
We woke up that morning with frosty temperatures in the balloonist town of Château-d’Oex in the Gruyere nature park. The again great weather made the walk through the town a real positive experience. At the end of the touristic part of our Autumn-Alp-Tour, we reached Basel in the evening and spent the night in Weil am Rhein.

3. November 2017 – vierzehnter Reisetag. In die Ballonfahrerstadt Château-d’Oex im Gruyere Naturpark kamen wir am Vorabend mehr oder weniger zufällig an, da uns die App Park4Night dort einen geöffneten Campingplatz anzeigte. Diesen können wir nur weiterempfehlen – der Check-In war trotz nicht ständig besetzten Platzes unkompliziert, die Internetverbindung im Preis inklusive und schnell und die Sanitäranlagen waren auf sehr hohem Niveau. Als wir aufwachten, war das Fahrzeug von Raureif umgeben und unsere beheizte Kabine hatte eine Reif-freie Ellipse auf den Rasen gezaubert, wie unsere Bilder unten zeigen (ein Klick auf die Bilder vergrößert diese). Die Sonne bestrahlte bereits die hinter uns liegenden Berge, was uns motivierte, rasch zu einer Stadtwanderung aufzubrechen.
November 3rd, 2017 – fourteenth travel day. Our choice for the camping site in the balloonist town of Château-d’Oex in the Gruyere nature park was a kind of coincidence – the site was one of the few ones displayed as still opened by the app Park4Night. It is really recommendable with its simple and straightforward check in procedure, good Internet connectivity and almost luxury sanitary equipment. When we woke up, the car was completely surrounded by hoar frost and our heated cabin had created frost free elliptic zone on the grass, as our photos below show (a click on the photos enlarges them). The sun was already illuminating the mountains behind us, motivating us to quickly leave for a walk through the town.
Der sympathische Ort bietet einige nette Cafés und Bäckereien, die morgens zu einer Frühstückspause einladen. Von leckeren Backwaren frisch gestärkt, liefen wir dann den Hügel hinauf zur reformierten Kirche Saint-Donat. Von dort aus hat man einen schönen Ausblick auf den Ort und die Umgebung.
This symphatic town has several nice cafes and bakeries, inviting for a good breakfast. Having consumed several tasty products, we then walked up the hill to the church of Saint-Donat. From there, one can enjoy a beautiful view to the town and the surroundings.
Beim Erkunden der Stadt fällt natürlich sofort der Breitling Orbiter auf, eine der Ballon-Kapseln/Gondeln, mit der Bertrand Piccard vor einigen Jahren zu einem seiner Versuche zur Umrundung der Welt in diesem Ort aufbrach. Laut Wikipedia findet auch jährlich im Januar vor Ort das Festival der Heißluftballons statt.
While strolling through the town, one soon sees the Breitling Orbiter, one of the capsules/gondolas used by Bertrand Piccard who started attempts to circumvent the globe from this place several years ago. According to Wikipedia, there is also a yearly hot air ballon festival every January.
Nach dem Stadtrundgang setzten wir unsere Fahrt in Richtung Basel über Fribourg und Bern fort (unsere interaktive Karte unten zeigt den GPS-Track des Tages und die Aufnahmeorte unsere Fotos). In Basel kam dann das touristische Programm unserer Tour mit dem Besuch der dortigen Herbstmesse zu Ende. Für die Übernachtung entschieden wir uns für den Wohnmobilstellplatz am Schwimmbad Laguna in Weil am Rhein.
After the city walk, we continued driving back towards Basel, passing Fribourg and Bern. Our interactive map below shows the GPS-Track of the day and the places where our photos were taken. In Basel, the touristic part of our tour then came to an end at the local “autumn fair”. We decided to spend the night at the camper parking of Laguna swimming pool in Weil am Rhein.
