Ein langer, aber herrlicher Reisetag – nach einem weiteren Spaziergang in der Altstadt von Briancon setzten wir bei bestem Wetter (blauem Himmel und Sonnenschein) die Fahrt über den Col d’Izoard und den Col de Vars in Richtung Barcelonnette fort. Spontan machten wir noch einen Abstecher ins bezaubernde Vallee de la Cerveyrette bis nach Les Fonts.
A long, but terrific travel day – after another walk through the historic city center of Briancon, we continued the trip at best weather, blue sky and sunshine via Col d’Izoard, Col de Vars towards Barcelonnette. We added spontaneously an excursion to the beautiful Vallee de la Cerveyrette all the way up to Les Fonts.

23. Oktober 2017 – dritter Reisetag. Nach leckerem Frühstück im Fahrzeug machten wir uns nochmals zu Fuß in die Altstadt von Briancon auf, die in der Morgensonne verführerisch aussah. Die Wolken in Richtung Norden hatten sich verzogen so dass wir den Blick frei auf den frisch gefallenen Schnee des Vortages hatten.
October 23rd, 2017 – third travel day. After a delicious breakfast in the vehicle, we had another walk to the historic city center of Briancon, which was offering a seductive view in the morning sun. Even the clouds in the north had vanished which allowed for a view on the fresh snow on the mountain tops.
Danach machten wir uns über die D902 auf in Richtung Col d’Izoard (Denzel-Kennzahl 494, 2361m) auf. Im Örtchen Cervières entschieden wir uns für einen Abstecher ins Vallee de la Cerveyrette (Denzel-Kenzahl 495, 2055m). Die interaktive Landkarte unten zeigt u.a. unsere GPS-Tracks. Am Talende in Les Fonts machten wir einen kurzen Spaziergang und grüßten die letzten verbliebenen Rinder auf der Höhe.
Afterwards we started on the D902 towards the Col d’Izoard (Denzel code 494, 2361m). In the village Cervieres we decided to have an excursion to the Vallee de la Cerveyrette (Denzel code 495, 2055m). Our interactive map below shows, among others, our GPS tracks. At the valley’s end in Les Fonts we had a short walk and greeted the last remaining cattle.
Aus dem Vallee de la Cerveyrette wieder herausgefahren ging es wieder hinauf zum Col d’Izoard wo uns kalter Wind mit Macht ins Gesicht blies. Trotzdem herrlich, rechts und links der Passstraße auf die Höhen zu spazieren und den Blick zu genießen.
Having left the Vallee de la Cerveyrette, we continued the climb towards Col d’Izoard, where a strong cold wind blew into our faces. Anyway a great experience to make a short hike up the hills left and right of the road and enjoy the view.
Die D902 leitete uns dann wieder hinunter ins Tal nach Guillestre mit seinen schon aus der Distanz beeindruckenden Festungsanlagen.
We then followed the the D902 downhill towards Guillestre with its impressive fortifications.
Von Guillestre aus wird die Fahrt zum Col de Vars (Denzel-Kennzahl 503, 2111m) fortgesetzt. Die Skiorte auf dem Weg zum Col üben auf uns nur eine sehr begrenzte Attraktivität aus. Wir können uns des Eindrucks nicht erwehren, dass bei der Errichtung der Infrastruktur für die Ski-Fans auf Nachhaltigkeit und kulturelle Kompatibilität mit der Umgebung häufig nur wenig Wert gelegt wurde. Auch die hässliche Bude am Pass zeigen wir besser nicht.
From Guillestre we continued the trip towards Col de Vars (Denzel code 503, 2111m). The attraction of the ski towns on the way up we found quite limited. It’s obvious that sustainability and cultural compatibility were not of highest priority when the ski infrastructure was set up. Also we better don’t show the ugly hut at the pass.
Wir folgten der D902 weiter ins Tal. In Saint-Paul-sur-Ubbaye wollten wir in der bekannten Brauerei einige Flaschen Bier kaufen, nur leider war gerade kein Personal zugegen. So ging es an Jausiers vorbei nach Barcelonnette. Da wir keinen geöffneten Campingplatz mehr finden konnten, entschieden wir uns für die Übernachtung auf dem Wohnmobil-Stellplatz am Sportplatz von Barcelonnette. Letzterer war in Ordnung, Ver- und Entsorgung möglich, jedoch wirkte die Anlage ein wenig vernachlässigt. Eine Gebühr wurde nicht erhoben.
The D902 then brought us back to the valley. In Saint-Paul-sur-Ubbaye we intended to buy some bottles of beer in the famous brewery , but unfortunately, there was no staff around. Thus we continued to Barcelonnette passing Jausiers. As we did not see and find any open camp sites, we decided to spend the night at the RV parking next to Barcelonnette’s sports field. the parking was all right, fresh water was available, grey water dumping was possible, but left a bit of a neglected impression on us. No fee was requested there.
