Col de la Bonette, einer der höchsten asphaltierten Alpenpässe – one of the highest hardened mountain passes of the alps

Am 30. Mai 2017, dem 12. Tag unseres Roadtrips Frankreich Mai 2017 haben wir die Rückreise Richtung Norden angetreten. Von der Cote d’Azur führte uns die Route über einen der höchsten asphaltierten Pässe der Alpen, den Col de la Bonette nach Jausiers und Barcelonette (gelbe Markierungen in unserer Übersichtskarte, s.u.).

On May 30th, 2017, the 12th day of our road trip “France May 2017”, we have started our return direction north. From Cote d’Azur we went to Jausiers and Barcelonette using one of the highest hardened mountain pass roads of the alps, the “Col de la Bonette” (yellow markers in our overview map, see below).

Es ist nicht selbstverständlich, dass Ende Mai der Pass schon befahrbar ist – wir hatten jedoch Glück: Wegen des sonnigen und warmen Wetters war die Bergstraße in der Vorwoche geöffnet worden.

It’s not self speaking that this road is open by the end of May, but we were lucky: Due to the sunny and warm weather, it had just been opened the week before.

Von Nizza fährt man auf der M6202 Richtung Norden am Fluß Var entlang und zweigt dann auf die D2205 ab, um dem Fluß Tinée zu folgen. Die landschaftlich schöne Strecke führt einen weiter bis nach Saint-Étienne-de-Tinée, einem Dorf, in dem ein Aufenthalt lohnenswert ist. Von dort windet sich die Straße mit starker Steigung zum Paß hinauf. An diesem Tag erreichten wir eine Höhe von 2715m. Die Weiterfahrt auf den Cime de la Bonette (2802m) war leider noch gesperrt und von Schneemassen blockiert.

From Nice we drove the M6202 direction north along the river Var and then turned on the D2205 to follow the river Tinée. The beautiful route brought us also to Saint-Étienne-de-Tinée, where we can definitely recommend to have a stop and break. From there, the road winds up steeply to the mountain pass. We reached a maximum height of 2715m, the road to the Cime de la Bonette (2802m) was unfortunately still closed and blocked by impressive masses of snow.

Nach kurzer Pause in der kühlen Bergluft setzten wir die Fahrt Richtung Jausiers bergab fort. Da der Campingplatz “Le Planet” in Jausiers noch geschlossen war, übernachteten wir in Barcelonette auf dem Campingplatz Le Tampico.

After a short break in the fresh mountain air, we continued the trip downhill towards Jausiers. As the camping “Le Planet” was still closed, we spent the night in Barcelonette on the camping “Le Tampico”.

Der Blick und die Landschaft fanden wir atemberaubend schön – wer kann, sollte diese Strecke auch einmal befahren. Die Straße ist in einwandfreiem Zustand, den Allradantrieb mussten wir nicht benutzen.

Views and landscape on that trip were simply great, we can only recommend everybody to drive there once if possible. The road is in great condition, we did not have to use 4 wheel drive.
